Nimotop contains an active ingredient which is called Nimodipine. It is used for ischemic neurological deficits, Subarachnoid hemorrhage, and other brain diseases.

The active ingredient in it is called calcium channel blocker. A group of medicine in which this drug belongs to is calcium antagonists.

Uses

  • Nimotop tablets are used to treat the brain problems, and to forestall changes in brain function after the bleeding all over the brain(subarachnoid hemorrhage).
  • The tablet is used to treat the Ruptured congenital intracranial aneurysms, Subarachnoid hemorrhage, and Ischemic neurological deficits.

How does it work?

  • The body normally reacts to the bleeding by narrowing the veins, so that flow of blood gets slow. However, stopping the blood flow can cause more brain harm while it's bleeding in the brain.
  • The table works by narrowing the veins or blood vessels in the brain close to the bleeding area so that the blood can flow easily. so, this can reduce the brain harm.

Dosage

Dosage for Adults: two tablets of 30 mg of Nimotop for 4 hours or as directed by the doctor.

  • The tablet should be taken for 10 to 14 days at least.
  • Swallow the whole tablet, do not chew, or crush it. Swallow it with the glass of water.
  • While having this tablet, do not drink grapefruit juice.

Moreover, the dosage is based on the condition of the patients.

Dosage for children: The tablet should not be given to children under the age of 18 years. It is not recommended for the children.
