Clomfranil tablet is used for disorders like obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and for chronic pain. An active ingredient which is in this tablet is clomipramine hcl.The generic category is antidepressant.

Uses

The tablet is used to treat, prevent, improve, and control disorders like obsessive-compulsive disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, premature ejaculation, trichotillomania, panic disorder, and chronic pain.
It helps in decreasing unwanted or persistent thoughts, obsessions.
However, it also helps lower the inclination to perform the task which are repeated (compulsions like counting, checking and handwashing), which interfere with everyday living.
This drug belongs to a class of medicine which is called tricyclic antidepressants.

How does it work

This medicine can work by restoring and balancing some natural substances such as serotonin in the brain.

How to use

The tablet should be used as directed by the doctor. It is very important for the patient to read all the instructions on the leaflet of the tablet.
The tablet should be taken with or without food with water. The tablet should not be chewed or crushed; it should be properly swallowed.
Do not overdose. It may be risky and can cause many problems.

Dosage

Dosage for adults

The initial dose: take a tablet of 2 mg once in a day with water at bedtime.

For maintenance dose: take a tablet of 100 mg in a day orally.

For maximum dose: take 250 mg of tablet in a day.

Dosage for children

Age: 10 to 17 years

For the initial dose: take 25 mg of tablet once in a day at night

for the maintenance dose: 3 mg tablet or increase to 100 mg orally in a day.

For the maximum dose: take 3 mg or a tablet of 200 mg in a day.

Dosage can depend on the condition of the patient.

The tablet is available in Pakistan, in every city and in medical stores. The prices of the tablet are not too high; however, it is affordable. Nevertheless, the tablet is also available in online stores with reasonable prices.

The patient who are hypersensitive should be careful using while using this medicine as it contains some inactive ingredient which may cause a serious allergic reaction.
The patient having a liver disease or kidney problem should use this medicine carefully or consult a doctor first before using as it may be dangerous for them
This medication can cause dizziness and fatigue. The patient using this drug should avoid using machinery or drive a vehicle. It can be very risky and dangerous for them.
The old ones (aged women) should also use it carefully; they may fall because of dizziness.
Avoid using alcohol while using this drug. It is unsafe to consume.
Do not take a double dose if the previous one is missed. It may cause a severe problem.
The patient having chronic constipation, glaucoma and urinary retention should stop using this medication; it's not safe for them.

In pregnancy

Before using this drug, pregnant women should consult a doctor first. It may be unsafe during pregnancy or can harm the baby.

Before taking clomipramine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., imipramine, nortriptyline); or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Tell the doctor right away if you notice worsening depression/other psychiatric conditions, unusual behavior changes (including possible suicidal thoughts/attempts), or other mental/mood changes (including new/worsening anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, irritability, hostile/angry feelings, impulsive actions, severe restlessness, very rapid speech).

Be especially watchful for these symptoms when a new antidepressant is started or when the dose is changed. This drug passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Some products that may interact with this drug include: anticholinergics (e.g., atropine, belladonna alkaloids, scopolamine), certain drugs for high blood pressure (e.g., clonidine, guanethidine), cisapride, digoxin, thyroid supplements, valproic acid, drugs that can cause bleeding/bruising (e.g., "blood thinners" such as warfarin/heparin, anti-platelet drugs including aspirin or NSAIDs such as ibuprofen).

Side Effects
