This medication is used by people with sickle cell anemia to reduce the number of painful crises caused by the disease and to reduce the need for blood transfusions.

Precautions

Tell your doctor/Pharmacist your medical history, especially of Kidney disease, Liver disease, Bone marrow suppression, Neutropenia, Thrombocytopenia, Anemia, HIV infection, High uric acid level in the blood, Radiation treatment. Females should not become pregnant while using hydroxyurea, as it may harm an unborn baby. Men with female partners of childbearing age should ask about reliable forms of birth control while using this medication and for 1 year after stopping treatment.

Side Effects

Nausea, Vomiting, Loss of appetite, Mouth sores, Diarrhea, Constipation, or Allergic reactions may occur.
