Mycitracin cream is a medicated cream which is used to reduce the bacteria from an affected area of the skin, e.g. minor infections, minor cuts and burns. It will not affect on other types of skin infections as it only treats bacterial skin infections. 

Applying it on other skin conditions may react negatively and may worsen it depending on skin condition, as it only prevents or reduces the bacteria formed by the infection or minor cuts.

This medication is used to prevent and treat Minor skin infections caused by small Cuts, Scrapes, or Burns.

How to use:

  • The cream is to be applied only for bacterial infections. 
  • The area in which the cream is to be applied must be clean and dry.
  • The cream should be applied in a small amount to form a thin layer.
  • The area on which the medication is applied should not be covered and should be left open until instructed by the doctor.
  • Do not use it in a large amount as it will not affect, and it may worsen the skin condition depending on the infection.

Mycitracin Cream for Stitches

Whenever the skin is damaged, and stitches have been applied, there is always a risk for infection in the wound. Therefore, creams and ointments, which include antibiotics like bacitracin, are always used to reduce the bacteria from the wound.

Mycitracin, therefore, is made with the combination of three antibiotics which includes bacitracin which doctors mostly prescribe and apply on stitches which helps in reduction and prevention of bacteria in the wound.

Discuss with your doctor if you are allergic from the antibiotics, including neomycin, polymyxin, gentamycin, or any corticosteroids. This medication includes inactive ingredients that can cause severe allergies to the skin.

Applying it during pregnancy:

During the pregnancy period, it should only be used when needed the most as it is not known and is also not known that the product might pass the maternal milk before breastfeeding, it is better to consult a doctor before.

Drug Interactions:

Patients using this medication with the prescription and directions of doctor might be aware of possible drug interaction depending on their medical condition, patients changing or stopping the dosage may consult their doctor before doing it.

This medication is usually well tolerated. Allergic reactions may occur.

Where mycitracin reduces bacteria in bacterial infections caused by minor injuries there it also has many side effects which can affect an individual in a negative way, depending on one’s medical and physical condition.

Side Effects caused:

  • Burn spots of skin after applying the medication.
  • Redness in the skin.
  • Irritation in the skin.
  • Skin getting dry depends on skin condition.

If any serious side effects caused by this medication should immediately consult medical help as this medication is given for benefit purposes not to increase the risk of side effects.
